Have just been told a very interesting and humourous anecdote in which a person inadvertently used a phrase with a double meaning. As this involves other people I don't want to divulge atmit BUT it has reminded me of a similar story of my own.......some people know this one already as it is one of my party pieces :))
I was sitting eating dessert next to a nice young man [I was at that time younger than now but considerably older than he.] The dessert had mixed crushed nuts on the top of it and I commented on how I loved nuts. The young man said he actually didn't like them but had eaten them just to get to what was underneath. So I said in a humourous but definitely innocent manner that I would have licked his nuts off for him! The table went silent and I then realised what I had said but being me, instead of keeping quiet, I thought it was absolutely hilarious and became hysterical with laughter. The young man, though initially slightly embarrassed, joined in because it was particulary relevant to something in our daily lives....you may ask what....well I shall tell you.....I was at that time, attending a psychotherapy unit on a daily basis and almost everything people said was seen to be freudian. Incidentally before I left the unit I just had to tell the therapists that sometimes a banana was just a banana!!
